Chrissy Amphlett was born in Geelong and travelled to Europe as a teenager, busking in England, Spain and France. She spend three months in a Spanish jail for street singing before returning to Australia.
Chrissy played in a number of bands until she met Mark McEntee, a guitarist with whom she formed Divinyls and co-wrote many of the anthemic rock songs the band became famous for.
The Divinyls produced a string of hits over a 14 year period,including the number 1 hit, "I Touch Myself" and ten others that made the Australian charts. They were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
As well as her work with the Divinyls, Chrissy is a best selling author and has played the role of Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz, next to Australian superstar Hugh Jackman. |
