Brian was born in Perth and at the age of ten was given the choice of tennis lessons or piano lessons - fortunately he chose piano! In the early sixties, Brian's family moved firstly to Tasmania and then to Melbourne. After working with a few jazz and R&B bands, he joined The Groop in 1966. He co-wrote a number of hits with Don Mudie, both for The Groop and for a number of other Australian artists. Brian also contributed (uncredited) in the backing vocals to Russell Morris' mega-hit "The Real Thing"
After some success with The Groop (including a short time performing as Brian Caine), Brian's next venture was with Axiom (1969 - 1971). During this time, Brian continued to co-write with Don Mudie, including the timeless classics Arkansas Grass and A Little Ray of Sunshine.
After this Brian continued to work as a solo artist and as part of the Bootleg Family Band until 1975, when he moved to the USA.
In 1993, Brian toured with his old Axiom buddy, Glenn Shorrock, performing under the name "Blazing Salads". He has also been a member of the well-known US country band The Flying Burrito Brothers.
Since that time, Brian has worked both in the US and Australia both in the writing, production and performance of songs as well as developing jingles for Tooheys, Fosters, Eastcoast Jeans, Qantas and a large number of radio stations.
It is worth noting some of the artists he has worked with and/or written music for - this will give some sense of the impact Brian has made to the Australian music industry and beyond: Pointer Sisters, Joe Cocker, Ringo Starr, Bonnie Tyler, Charlie Daniels, Glenn Campbell, LRB, Gene Pitney, Cilla Black, Trini Lopez, Wayne Newton, Russell Morris, Beeb Birtles, Daryl Cotton, Dutch Tilders, Kerrie Biddell, John Farnham ... and the list goes on and on.
He continues to perform live around Australia. |
