Watch the Gurus perform: What's My Scene (1987)

Formed in Sydney in 1981 by frontman and songwriter, Dave Faulkner, the Hoodoo Gurus had their first hit in Australia in 1983 with My Girl.

Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, the Gurus performed live around Australia and the US college circuit, scoring chart success with songs such as Like Wow - Wipeout, Miss Freelove '69, Come Anytime and the iconic, What's My Scene (peaking at number 3 in 1987).

In 1998, the band split up and each of the band members went on to other solo work.

in 2003, the band reformed to record a reworked version of "What's My Scene" to become "That's My Team" as the theme to the National Rugby League promotional video.

Soon afterwards, they recorded a new album and the Gurus were back. They were paid the ultimate tribute in 2005 when a number of Australian acts such as Spiderbait, The Living End and You Am I recorded tracks for a tribute album Stoneage Cameos (based on the title of the Gurus first album, Stoneage Romeos). One track was recorded by an outfit called the Persian Rugs - consisting of the four members of the Gurus, themselves.

The band is about to release its latest album "Purity of Essence" which includes the single Crackin Up which is featured on the March 2010 edition of Radio Ga Ga.
