Watch Ted perform: Julia (1970)

Ted Mulry started off his music career as a songwriter and then, after some encouragement from his publishers, recorded "Julia" in 1970. He continued to write songs for other artists including John Farnham, Alison MacCallum and Sherbet.

In 1972, Ted became tired of playing with different backing bands and so, switched from acoustic to bass guitar and formed Ted Mulry Gang. They had a number of hits throughout the 1970's including the all-time classic "Jump In My Car".

By the early 1980's, their chart success was pretty much over but they remained firm favourites on the pub circuit throughout the decade.

In early 2001, Ted announced that he had terminal brain cancer. The music industry paid him the ultimate tribute by putting on a benefit concert - "Gimme Ted". On 1 September 2001, Ted passed away one day short of his 50th birthday.
